Laredo, Texas.- District Six Council Member Dr. Marte Martinez, who is also part of a team of surgeons at a local hospital, is the first council member to have the COVID-19 vaccine administered.

“I am honored and privileged to receive the vaccine”, said Dr. Marte Martinez. “As frontline personnel begin to receive the vaccine, I remain cautiously optimistic that the end of this horrific pandemic is in sight. As a medical professional, it was my duty to obtain the vaccine to prove it is safe. I do hope that the citizens of Laredo do consider getting the vaccine when the time comes. Until then, stay safe by following CDC guidelines.”

Furthermore, the Laredo Health Department reminds the community the COVID-19 vaccine is safe. Trust in vaccines is built through millions of conversations between parents, doctors, and community members and leaders.

“Thank you to everyone that has already obtained their COVID-19 and influenza vaccine. The Laredo Health Department asks everyone to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine when their time comes. We are hopeful this is the beginning of the end,” said Health Director Richard Chamberlain.

The City of Laredo continues to advise the community to get the flu vaccine as an added measure against COVID-19.
